Polyurethane, or commonly referred to as urethane, is a very popular material for car body kits. With ABS plastic, you get a thermoplastic that’s made by polymerizing styrene and acrylonitrile in the presence of polybutadiene. The result of this is a material that combines the strength and rigidity of acrylonitrile and styrene polymers with the ruggedness of the polybutadiene rubber. When you use ABS plastic, you get a material that is impact, chemical, and heat resistant. Plus, ABS plastic is very widely used by OEM for body panels. Much like polyurethane, ABS plastic also has superior fit and finish that is found to be more expensive than fiberglass. It’s a little less flexible than polyurethane, but it’s found to be easier to paint.
